I really connected with Lisa in Lisa Frankenstein. She is drawn to things most people would call “abnormal,” and that sense of being out of place is something I have felt for as long as I can remember. Her fascination with death and the macabre does not feel strange to me, it feels familiar. I have always loved anything involving reanimation, vampires included, so this movie already spoke my language.
Even the smaller details hit home. Lisa spending time in cemeteries is something I genuinely enjoy too, which made her character feel even more personal and real to me. There is a comfort in those quiet, in between spaces that not everyone understands.
What really pulls it all together is the tone, dark humor mixed with gothic romance. That combination gets me every time. It is offbeat, a little chaotic, and unapologetically weird in the best way. And that is probably why it resonates so much. There is something reassuring about seeing a character who does not quite fit the mold and does not need to.
When The Mystic Museum hosted the “Horror High Reunion” immersive experience, it felt like a fun extension of that same aesthetic. The setup had that same mix of nostalgia and horror atmosphere that makes spaces like that so enjoyable to explore. It was just a really cool way to experience something that aligns with the kind of stories and imagery I already love.
